5: the bike scene (Plaga-Zombie)
maybe it's just because I just saw it recently, but I can't think offhand of a more hilarious scene to kick off a movie. riding a bike...ZOMBIES!! there's nothing to explain this scene. it just is.
4:lone zombies breaks through the window (28 days later)
three people staying in the protagonist house. listen! silence...then a zombie crashes through the window. after a brief struggle, one of the characters has a scratch on his arm. the heroine then proceeds to mercilessly finish him off much the same way she did the zombies.
and in one scene they've redefined zombie movie. in dawn of the dead, a lone zombie was little threat: the bikers easily mock the scattered slow movers in the mall before their numbers get too large. also in dawn of the dead, a bite from a zombie would spell your eventual death - but in 28 days later you have seconds. it's a totally different fear.
unfortuneatly, the next real "running zombie" movie, the dawn remake, was much less effective about it. and I imagine it will only get worse from there. but at least the running zombie crowd gave us that one scene.
3. zombies emerging from the ground (return of the living dead)
skull thrusts itself out of the earth, the jaw falls open, and "do you wanna paaaaaaaaaaaaartay??" sytlish. iconic.
2. the zombies breach the house (night of the living dead)
I love night of the living dead: it's like one of those dreams where you're being chased and capture is inevitable, but you run anyway and gradually fall behind. the whole movie is just one sinking feeling which climaxes when the zombies finally enter the house, and with only one survivor, ben takes to the basement.
1.
"...party's over."
the lawn mower scene (dead alive)
you just can't get any more over the top.
discuss my list. make your own.
